Private Robert Arthur Gilbertson
Description
Private Robert Arthur Gilbertson (4417, 19th Battalion) was born in Sydney, NSW. He was working as a boundary rider when he enlisted in December 1915. Robert was killed in action near Gieudecourt on 5 January 1917 as his battalion was relieving the 20th Battalion in the front line trenches. His mother wrote that he was 17 and one half years of age at the time of his death. Robert is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.
