Private Francis Williams
Description
Private Francis Williams (2005, 46th Australian Infantry Battalion) was born in Melbourne, Victoria, in 1900. He was working as a grocer when he enlisted in March 1916. His brother, Private Edward Richard Williams, had enlisted three weeks earlier. It was reported that Francis was last seen alive lying wounded in a shell hole near Lagnicourt on 11 April 1917. He was later deemed to have been killed in action by a court of enquiry. Francis is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux, France. He was 16 years of age.
