Description
Flying Officer Lawrence William Mann enlisted to the Royal Australian Air Force on 7 December 1940. He trained as a wireless operator and air gunner in Australia and Scotland, and went on to serve with 210 and 190 Squadrons in the United Kingdom, Russia, and the Mediterranean. With these squadrons, Mann participated in anti-shipping operations, convoy escorts, and transportation flights. Between January and July 1944, he was an instructor at 4 Operational Training Unit, based at West Freugh, United Kingdom. Mann then served with 11, 20 and 36 Squadrons in Australia. After the Second World War, Flying Officer Mann continued to serve with the Royal Australian Air Force until the mid-1950s.
