Description

Warrant Officer Daryl Hamilton Smith enlisted to the Royal Australian Air Force on 21 June 1941. He completed his initial pilot training in New South Wales and South Australia, and continued his training in the United Kingdom. Warrant Officer Smith went on to serve as a pilot with 104 Squadron in the Mediterranean. With his unit, he participated in bombing operations over Italy. On 8 August 1943, Warrant Officer Smith died in a flying battle over the Mediterranean Sea. He is commemorated at Malta Memorial, Malta.
