Staff Sergeant Joseph Henry Allen
Description
Staff Sergeant Joseph Henry Allen enlisted to the Australian Imperial Force as a private on 21 June 1918. He embarked for overseas service with 5 General Service Reinforcements on 22 October 1918. However, partway through the voyage the First World War ended. Staff Sergeant Allen returned to Australia, and was discharged on 31 January 1919 with an illness he had contracted while on board the ship. During the Second World War, Staff Sergeant Allen enlisted to the Australian Military Forces and served as a Post Master General with 4 Lines of Communication Signals. He was discharged from this role on 8 January 1945 and became a reservist.
