Private William Thomas Connolly
Description
Private William Thomas Connolly (3585, 54th Battalion) was born in Burraga, NSW, in 1899. He was working as a miner when he enlisted in August 1915. William was killed in action during the battle of Fromelles on 19 July 1916. Originally identified on a German Death List as killed in action, William had no known grave and was commemorated at the VC Corner Australian Cemetery and Memorial, Fromelles. William was identified amongst soldiers found in a mass grave at Pheasant Wood, and is now buried in the Pheasant Wood Military Cemetery, Fromelles, France. William's mother later wrote that he was 17 years of age.
