Private Arthur John Porteus
Description
Private Arthur John Porteus (4269, 2nd Battalion) was born in Redfern, Sydney, around September of 1900. He was working as a clerk when he enlisted in August 1915. Arthur was killed in action on 6 November 1917 on the front line when a shell exploded killing him and three others. He has no known grave, and is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium. A family notice in a newspaper indicated that Arthur was 17 years and 10 months of age at the time of his death.
