Private James Joseph Colgate
Description
Private James Joseph Colgate (398, 35th Battalion) was born about January 1900 in Korumburra, Victoria. He was working as a clipper when he enlisted in January 1916. James was killed in action on 12 July 1917. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium. His father wrote that he was 17 years 6 months of age at the time of his death. Two brothers also served, Corporal Albert E Colgate (399, 35th Battalion) and Private Frederick C Colgate (2307, 30th Battalion).
