Private Roderick Hugh Humphris
Description
Private Roderick Hugh Humphris (1140, 53rd Battalion) was born at Broken Hill, NSW on 25 April 1900. He was working as a mine clipper when he enlisted in December 1915. Roderick was killed in action on 13 May 1917 during the second battle of Bullecourt. Roderick is commemorated at Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux, France. He was 17 years 1 month of age at the time of his death. Roderick's cousin, Corporal Bryan Humphris (531, 32nd Battalion) was killed in action in July 1916. Another cousin, Private Richard Knott Humphris (5731, 10th Battalion) was awarded a Military Medal.
