Oban
Description
Oban, in the west of Scotland, was first surveyed as a potential flying boat base in the early 1930s. An operational base was opened there in September 1938 and maintained until April 1945. Many of the Australian aircrew of 10 Squadron have fond memories of Oban as they were billeted in four-star hotels and enjoyed considerable hospitality from the locals.
