Duckmanton, Sydney James (Lieutenant)
Collection relating to Lieutenant Sydney James Duckmanton who served with the 5th and 15th Field Companies during the First World War. Consists of a diary for the period November 1915 - August 1916 and describes his period of service in Egypt, near the Suez canal defences and front line action in France. Other items in the collection include a soldier's pay book; a postcard photograph of Lieutenant Duckmanton in uniform, 9 November 1916; a signed souvenir menu from the troopship Riverina, 17 November 1918; 5 x documents relating to Duckmanton's discharge and re-appointment to the AIF and letters, speech and envelope relating to his retirement from the War Service Homes Division of the Commonwealth Public Service in 1960
Biographical note: Served in 5 Field Company Engineers and later in 60 Battalion during First World War. Also enlisted in Second World War. In civilian life he was an architect who designed soldiers' homes for the War Service Homes Division (Commonwealth Public Service), retiring as a Chief Architect in 1960.
