Collection relating to the First World War service of the brothers 2973 Private Albert Edmund Leane and 8189 Corporal William Arthur Leane.

Albert Edmund Leane served with the 2nd Australian Pioneer Battalion, AIF on the Western Front. Collection consists of diary, a typed transcript of the diary, a short untitled poem, four postcards received and sent by Albert Edmund Leane, letters written in 1931 including reminiscences, and a card relating to Albert Edmund Leane's death in 1967. The diary covers the period 30 January 1916 to 28 June 1919, and includes a description of the outward journey from Australia, initial training and posting in England, service on the Western Front, and includes addresses, various notes and a register of correspondence.

William Arthur Leane served with the 5th Australian Field Bakery, Army Service Corps in Egypt and the Western Front. Collection consists of five postcards, four written by William Arthur Leane, and one written to him from his parents on his birthday, and a letter written in 1966 by the grandson of William Arthur Leane, detailing his youth.
