Description

A propaganda leaflet produced by the Far Eastern Liaison Office (FELO) during the Second World War. This leaflet is written in Japanese and was distributed to Buna, Gona, Sanananda, Guadalcanal and China-Hong Kong. An English translation of the text is attached. The message compares the war situation for Japan to the ageing geisha who hides pock-marks and wrinkles by heavy make-up. The message then warns that such temporary cover-ups will not last for long. It touches on many of Japan's defeats and inaccurate accounts of lost battles given by Japanese authorities. The leaflet blames the dishonest military clique for driving millions of Japanese men to useless death.
