Diary of Ion Llewellyn Idriess, 1916
Description
Diary relating to First World War service of 358 Trooper Ion Llewellyn Idriess, 5th Light Horse Regiment. Entries are mostly undated, but one entry, about two-thirds of the way through the diary, is dated 14 June 1916. In this diary, Idriess complains of short rations of food and water, and mentions sunstroke and exhaustion. He reports on the strain of desert work on horses and describes horses falling asleep during "standing patrol" in the desert at night. He also mentions heavy casualties among the 3rd Light Horse as a result of bombing raid on Romani.
