Australian made leather flying helmet
Description
Brown leather flying helmet with buckle chinstrap and small buckled loop on the rear to retain goggles. Inside the helmet, there are insulated circular leather earpads to reduce noise, and the brow section has a section of sweat absorbing fabric let in. The external earpieces are circular, with openings at the bottom to allow the insertion of communication equipment. Each opening is secured by a pair of snap fasteners with brown plastic caps impressed 'STAGG MELB AUS'. A heavily stained and discoloured cotton tag inside the helmet is embroidered with the words 'Stagg Gloves'.
History / Summary
The history of this particular helmet is not known, but similar Stagg helmets are thought to have been worn by RAAF aircrew in Malaya circa 1941-42.
