History / Summary

Bottle of permanganate potash in wartime guise. Such material from this period usually dispenses with decorative colours and unnecessary packaging, in line with rationing and austerity guidelines then current. Permanganate potash, also known as potassium permanganate, potassium salt or Condy's crystals, was used as an oxidising and bleaching agent, a deodorant, a water treating agent, an antidote in phosphorus poisoning and was also recommended for the treatment of snake bite.
