Pair of embroided sleeve badges : Multinational Security Transitional Command Iraq (MNSTCI), Australian Army
Pair of machine woven 'subdued' badges of the Multinational Security Transitional Command, Iraq (MNSTCI). The shield shaped badges, which are embroidered in two shades of brown cotton on a pale brown background, shows an Assyrian winged bull (an ancient symbol of Persia) superimposed over a pair of crossed scimitars and a palm wreath, and surmounted by a seven pointed star.
The Multinational Security Transitional Command, Iraq (MNSTCI, pronounced 'minsticky'), based in the Baghdad International Zone, was given the task of rebuilding the Iraqi armed forces in the wake of the second Gulf War, using staff drawn from the Australian, US, British and Danish military services. Ten officers and two warrant officers represent the standard size of the ongoing Australian commitment. The badge was worn on the left shoulder of the uniform by all personnel as distinguishing unit insignia. Australians serving with MNSTCI wore the standard Australian Army DPDU shirt and trousers.
