Description

Vinh Trung, South Vietnam. 1969-12. The Commander of the 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF), Brigadier (Brig) S. P. Weir of Braddon, ACT, greets a Vietnamese citizen at the opening of a meeting hall. The hall, built as a Civil Affairs' project by members of the 1st Field Regiment, The Royal Australian Artillery, was opened jointly by Brig Weir, the Commanding Officer (CO) of 1st Field Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel H. J. Beck, and the CO of the 1st Australian Civil Affairs' Unit, Lieutenant Colonel Peter Gration. During construction, the soldiers lived in the village.
