War in Europe and North Africa

From 1940 to 1942, the Royal Australian Navy, Australian Army, and Royal Australian Air Force saw action against the Germans, Italians, and Vichy French in Europe, North Africa, the Mediterranean, and the French mandate of Syria. Although much of Australia’s military resources were redirected to the war in the Pacific from 1942, thousands of Australians continued to serve in Europe and the Middle East until the end of the war in 1945.

Within the categories below, you will find information and material from the Memorial’s collection relating to Australia’s involvement in the European and North African campaigns of the Second World War.
