2021 Anzac Day National Ceremony - veterans’ banner parade to go ahead

The ACT Branch of the Returned and Services League (RSL) manages and co-ordinates the traditional Canberra Anzac Day veterans’ march. In 2021, due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, the ACT RSL made the decision to proceed with a banner parade of up to 200 veterans as part of the Anzac Day National Ceremony, in place of the traditional veterans’ march.

The banner parade will be proceeding as planned.

Unique to the Australian War Memorial, veterans involved in the banner parade will become part of the ceremony, and are included in the total number of attendees approved under the COVID-safe Anzac Day plan. It’s important to note that this is different to Anzac Day marches in most other states and territories where they march past and disperse.

The Australian War Memorial has been granted approval by ACT Health to have up to 4200 people in attendance the Dawn Service and 3000 at the National Ceremony.
