Anzac Day 2012 Dawn Service

The Australian War Memorial hosted around 25,000 visitors for the traditional Anzac Day Dawn Service today. Today is the 70th year that Anzac Day has been commemorated at the Memorial.

 “We are delighted with the attendances. The Anzac Day services remember those Australian service men and women who have served the nation, and particularly those who have died,” said the Australian War Memorial, Acting Director, Nola Anderson.

“We encourage those that could not join us earlier today to come to the National Ceremony commencing at 10.15 am. The National Ceremony includes a march by veterans of wars and peacekeeping deployments, which is a great way to recognise our returned service men and women.”

“The Memorial will be open following the conclusion of the National Service so that poppies can be placed on the Roll of Honour and Tomb of the Unknown Soldier for those that never returned,” Ms Anderson said.

The Australian War Memorial is one of the nation’s most visited museums, a place where Australians can remember and learn about the Australian experience of war and its enduring impact on our society.
