Anzac Day 2012 National Ceremony
The Australian War Memorial hosted around 14,500 visitors for the traditional Anzac Day National Ceremony and more than 25,000 for the Dawn Service today. This year is the 70th year that Anzac Day has been commemorated at the Memorial.
“We are delighted with the attendances today, welcoming almost 40,000 visitors to the Memorial. The Anzac Day services remember those Australian service men and women who have served the nation, and particularly those who have died,” said the Australian War Memorial, Acting Director, Nola Anderson.
“The National Ceremony included a commemorative address by Air Marshal Mark Binskin AO, the Acting Chief of the Defence and a spectacular fly-over of three Royal Australian Air Force F/A-18 Hornets.
“The Ceremony also included the RSL veterans march with men and women that have served in wars and peacekeeping deployments,” Ms Nolan said.
