Memorial to remain open throughout planned development
The headline on an article that appeared in the Sydney Morning Herald today (29 March 2021 – Page 10) is incorrect.
The Australian War Memorial will remain open to the public throughout the proposed Development Project and will continue to commemorate major commemorative events such as Anzac Day and Remembrance Day.
Correction
The Australian War Memorial will remain open to the public throughout the planned development of its new gallery spaces and will continue to be the centre of commemoration for veterans and the nation.
The article in Monday’s Sydney Morning Herald, ‘War Memorial to shut for two years’, 29 March 2021, incorrectly stated that the Memorial would close during the proposed development and that this year’s Anzac Day ceremony would be the last that veterans would be able to attend until at least 2024.
The Memorial has always stated that it will remain open during the proposed construction works and will continue to commemorate major commemorative events such as Anzac Day and Remembrance Day, just as it has done since it opened almost 80 years ago on 11 November 1941.
