We were the 9-11 soldiers (II)

2021
acrylic and spray paint on canvas
152 x 107 x 3.5 cms

I continue to explore this theme that we will be known as the 9/11 soldiers – those who fought in the wars that came after September 11 2001 and the attack on the World Trade Center in New York. In this work the towers are painted red to emphasise those who died on that day and subsequently – civilians, soldiers and Islamic militants. The soldier ascending on the right panel is similar to the image on the Tarin Kowt memorial wall in Afghanistan. The left-hand stencil is similar to Australian War Memorial images from the same conflict. They appear to be on a conveyor belt as we were – going again and again to war.
