The Charles Bean Reading Centre is located near Poppy's Cafe.

Monday – Friday: 10 am – 4.30 pm

The Research Centre is closed on Sunday and ACT public holidays.

Entering and exiting the Memorial

Visitors can access the Memorial using the Main Entrance (L0), from either the East or West side, or the Commemorative Entrance (L2), which feature steps and a handrail.

When using the Main Entrance, on Level 0, visitors can use the East or West to enter:

East Entrance: Access via the Courtyard and underground P1 Visitor Carpark or covered ramp.

West Entrance: Access via the Sculpture Gardens.

External lifts are also available:

  • From the Commemorative Entrance (L2), an external lift offers access to all levels of the Memorial.
  • From the Main Entrance (L0), an external lift offers access to the East Courtyard (L0), P1 Visitor carpark (CP) and the Commemorative Forecourt and Poppy's Cafe (F)

Bag check and Cloaking

Bag checks are conducted on arrival at the Memorial.

Small handbags and camera cases may be carried with you.

Baggage or items larger than 40cm x 30cm x 30cm must be cloaked at facilities provided.

Car

Free visitor parking is available in the P1 and P2 visitor carparks.

P1 Visitor Carpark is located underneath Poppy’s Cafe (access via Fairbairn Avenue).

  • EV charging points are available
  • Carpark clearance: 2.3 metres
  • Covered ramp directs to the Main Entrance (L0).
  • External lift and stairs connect the Main Entrance (East Courtyard) and the P1 Visitor Carpark to the Commemorative Forecourt and Poppy’s Café.

P2 Visitor Carpark is accessed via Treloar Crescent.

You are asked to display a parking permit to verify your use of an accessible parking space. 

Drop off and pickup

A drop off and pickup area is located in the P1 Visitor Carpark

Caravan, campervan, trailer and over-height vehicle parking

There is currently no parking available for caravans, campervans, trailers, and over-height vehicles at the Memorial.

Coach parking

The coach parking bay is currently closed to allow for construction works. Limited coach layby is available on Fairbairn Avenue. Please refer to the map visitor map for coach pick up and drop off locations.

Bus stop

Bus route 54, from the City Interchange, travels past the Memorial, with bus stops on Fairbairn Avenue and Limestone Avenue. See Timetables - Transport Canberra (act.gov.au) for more information and routes from your departure point.

Walk or cycle

Paved walking and cycle paths lead to the Memorial’s entrance from the top of Anzac Parade via Fairbairn and Limestone Avenues, with clearly marked pedestrian crossings and traffic lights.

Please note: the pedestrian path to the east of the Parade Ground has steps; while the path to the west does have an incline, it is pram and wheelchair accessible.

Bike racks are located behind Poppy’s Café.
