62,000 Poppies Display
62,000 Poppies Display
Date: Friday 5 October - Sunday 11 November 2018
Time: 9am - 10pm
Location: Australian War Memorial
A display of 62,000 handcrafted, red poppies on the Memorial's grounds was the centrepiece of commemorations, symbolically representing Australian lives lost in the First World War.
This was a free event. Night time lighting allowed visitors to access the display through to 10pm each day.
Complementing the handcrafted poppies display was a moving musical program assembled by Memorial artist in residence Chris Latham.
About the 62,000 poppies
The 62,000 Poppies Display was by the founders of the 5,000 Poppies project and Phillip Johnson Landscapes.
Each handcrafted poppy was created by a volunteer to represent an Australian life lost in the First World War. The names of those lost are individually listed on the Memorial’s Roll of Honour.
