Murray Everett aged 71 lives in Launceston, all my family are from Cape Barren Island. I left Cape Barren Island in 1967. I got a job with the Burnie city council. My mum Nellie and dad Dalton left Cape Barren later in 1970. I then moved to Launceston to be with them, and have been here ever since. I worked in the sawmills for around 18years. When the mill burnt down, I started working with the Port of Launceston that spanned 23 years. I later went to University to further my education, providing with an opportunity to begin my work in mentoring children, literacy and culture. “I have always wondered, why has it taken so long for the recognition of our soldiers.”
