Kurrajongs recruiting march
Route: (travelling by train) Inverell, Warialda, Moree, Narrabri.
There were two contingents, the first of over 100 men leaving Inverell on 12 January 1916. A second, smaller group departed on 29 February.
On arrival at Narrabri, the Kurrajongs were sent to the Armidale training camp, then to the Rutherford camp. Most were allotted to the new 33rd Infantry Battalion, known as New England’s Own.
Awards received by members of the Kurrajongs include: 1 Military Cross, 3 Distinguished Conduct Medals, 7 Military Medals, and 3 Meritorious Service Medals.
