Collection relating to service of Major James Doherty MC, 7 Field Artillery Brigade, France, 1917-1919. Collection includes letters of congratulation to Major Doherty after he was awarded the MC, and letters of condolence to Doherty's family upon his death in 1919.

History / Summary

Biographical note: Major, MC & Bar, 7th FAB, AIF. Died of bronchial pneumonia 26 February 1919. Company Manager of Sydney, born Balmain, NSW 6 March 1888; educated Fort Street Public School, Sydney and at Sydney University; had been a volunteer in the artillery (5th Battery) of the Australian Military Forces before the war; was wounded 31 July 1917 near Ypres. A cousin Major E. A. Olding served with 1 Australian Divisional Artillery and survived the war.
