Description
Extensive collection of mainly official papers relating to Field Marshal Sir Thomas Blamey, focusing on his military career as commander of both the Middle East and South West Pacific Area, chiefly 1939-1945. Consists of correspondence, operations reports, minutes, military appreciations, conference papers, maps, photographs, clippings and printed material. Included are files relating to the placement of the 2nd AIF in the Middle East, policy developments in the Pacific and personal papers documenting his early teaching career. Correspondents include Prime Minister John Curtin, Robert Menzies, General H Dentz, General V Sturdee, General Douglas MacArthur, Winston Churchill and Secretary of the War Cabinet Frederick Shedden.
