Description
Notebook belonging to NX41959 Private Harry R Green of 2/30 Battalion during captivity as a Japanese prisoner of war, 1942-1945, in Malaya during the Second World War. The notebook contains numerous anonymous poems about the prisoner of war experience under the Japanese and of fighting in Crete. There is a brief itinerary commencing 14 January 1942 of the withdrawal from Gemas, Malaya. Private Green left Changi on the first work party, 5 May 1942. He worked at Caldacott Hill and Bukit Timah. The notebook contains one loose sheet of Australian Red Cross Society writing paper with flight itinerary and dates for return to Australia setting out from Singapore civil airport, 21 September 1945.
