Shoulder strap with Victorian Mounted Rifles title : Private J H Peken, Victorian Mounted Rifles
Description
Khaki wool shoulder strap lined with khaki polished cotton, with a brass 'VMR' (Victorian Mounted Rifles) title. The original brass numeral, which would have been worn above the title to indicate the exact unit of the wearer, is missing. The strap has a buttonhole at the neck end to secure the loose end to the jacket.
History / Summary
Associated with 141 Private John Henry Peken of the Victorian Mounted Rifles. In 1897 he attended the celebrations for Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in London as part of the official contingent sent from the Colony of Victoria.
