Studio portrait of Captain (Capt) William Henry John Errol and his bride Josephine Antoinette De Morton. They were married at All Saints Church of England, East St Kilda, Victoria. Capt Errol, of Melbourne, Vic (originally of London, England), enlisted on 9 September 1914 and trained at Broadmeadows Camp where he was assigned number 5017 with the Australian Army Service Corps (AASC). Barely two months after his enlistment, on 1 November 1914, Errol was promoted to Lance Corporal. On 23 November 1915 he was promoted to Staff Sergeant. On 1 August 1917 he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and in December 1918 he was promoted to Captain. Whilst serving with the Desert Mounted Corps in Egypt and Palestine Capt Errol was Mentioned in Despatches for "...distinguished and gallant service and devotion to duty".
