Studio portrait of (probably) Captain Cecil Robert Arthur Pye, 17th Battalion. A medical practitioner of Windsor NSW, he enlisted, sailing for Egypt on 12 May 1915. He was promoted to the rank of major, serving on the Gallipoli Peninsula as the commanding officer of Hill 60, Karajak Dere and Quinn's Post. he was invalided back to England and then Australia where he re-enlisted and sailed with a reinforcement group of the 17th Battalion. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and was transferred to command the 19th Battalion. Awarded the DSO for work at Layton Lane near Warlencourt. he was killed in action on 4 October 1917. He was a student at Barker College, matriculating at 15 and he was a member of the Sydney University Scouts whilst studying medicine at the University of Sydney.
