Studio portrait of 5713 Private (Pte) Alfred Rose Pye 18th Battalion of Riverstone, NSW. A farmer prior to enlisting in May 1916 he embarked on board HMAT Euripides (A14) on 9 September 1916. Pte Pye was killed in action at Le Sars, Bapaume, France on 26 February 1917. He was 18 years of age. Pte Pye was a cousin to Lieutenant Colonel Cecil Pye DSO, killed in action in Belgium on 4 October 1917 and to Lieutenant Raymond Elton Pye, killed in action in France on 17 May 1916.
