Leather gloves : Mahony, RAN Boarding Party
Description
Pair of cream leather rigger's gloves bound at the wrist with dark brown cotton bias tape. The top of each glove has leather strap that can adjust the fit of the glove by means of a velcro tab. 'MAHONY' is written in black felt pen on the inside of the left wrist.
History / Summary
Used by Royal Australian Navy boarding parties during operations in the Persian Gulf during Operation Slipper and in the War on Iraq, 2003. The leather rigger's gloves were normally worn only for abseiling or other hazardous activities, Nomex aircrew gloves being worn on normal boarding operations.
