History / Summary

Red cross brassard worn by Able Seaman Medic Rowbottom aboard HMAS Darwin during the war on Iraq. Rowbottom's duties included instruction in the self-administration of anti nerve agent drugs and the vaccination of crew members against anthrax. In this context, the letters 'NBCDI' written inside the brassard may refer to 'Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Defence Instructor'.
