Description

Heavy duty grey cotton drill Royal Australian Navy working overalls with reflective strips on the arms and Velcro fastenings at the collar, wrists and ankles. The overalls are fastened down the front by a series of press studs. There are two patch breast pockets. The right pocket has a concealed zipper and the left is open, with a small narrow pen pocket sewn on the edge. A grey cotton tape sewn above the right breast pocket is machine embroidered in black cotton with the name 'ROWBOTTOM'. Above the left breast pocket is sewn a machine embroidered Royal Australian Navy Health Services patch. A pair of black 'AUSTRALIA' slides are fitted to the shoulder straps. There is a patch pocket on the left thigh with a flap secured by two press studs. The right thigh has a narrow expandable patch pocket from which the elastic has been removed. There are two slash pockets at the hips and a rear patch pocket on the right. A Red Cross brassard in white cotton fabric (REL31426.002) is carried on the right shoulder. A rectangular piece of black Velcro is sewn on the upper right hand sleeve beneath the brassard.

Working overalls worn by Able Seaman Medic Rowbottom aboard HMAS Darwin during the war on Iraq. Rowbottom's duties included instruction in the self-administration of anti nerve agent drugs and the vaccination of crew members against anthrax.
