Training injector : Able Seaman Medic Rowbottom, HMAS Darwin
Auto-injection training device used by Able Seaman Medic Rowbottom aboard HMAS Darwin. The injector, which closely resembles the operational article, is a clear plastic cylinder with a grey cap on one end. The other end, made of smoked dark grey plastic, contains the spring and injecting apparatus, and the white plastic plug which replaces the needle. A printed blue label on the body of the cylinder reads as follows: 'PRALIDOXIME CHLORIDE INJECTION, AUTOMATIC TRAINING DEVICE CONTAINS NO DRUG PRODUCT OR NEEDLE'. Within an arrow pointing to the base are the words '1. REMOVE GREY SAFETY CAP'. Another arrow pointing to the front contains the words '2. PLACE BLACK END ON OUTER THIGH AND PUSH HARD UNTIL INJECTOR FUNCTIONS'. A box beneath this reads '3. HOLD FIRMLY IN PLACE FOR TEN SECONDS'. Other small text on the label reads: 'NSN 6910-01-194-2227 LOT NO. 8R9090 MERIDIAN MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIES, INC. STI MILITARY SYSTEMS COLUMBIA, MD 21046'. The injector was stored in the right hand breast pocket of Rowbottom's overalls.
