Seventh Battalion hands over Horseshoe (DPR/TV/1378)
Soldiers of the 7th Battalion Royal Australian Regiment this week handed over their operational commitment in Vietnam to incoming troops of the 3rd Battalion. From widely scattered areas of Phuoc Tuy Province the infantry pulled back in preparation for their return to Australia. In a simple ceremony at the Horseshoe feature, the operational base of the 7th Battalion, the 3rd Battalion took over responsibility for the out going unit's areas. The 7th Battalion's regimental flag was lowered for the last time and the 3rd Battalion raised its flag. All troops at the Horseshoe then returned to Nui Dat to pack and complete final preparations for boarding HMAS Sydney. The battalion will return to its base at Holsworthy. The 3rd Battalion was reinforced with troops from other units until its full complement of men arrives in Vietnam.
