The village of Retimo, Crete. The 2/1st Battalion landed on Crete on 26 April 1941 and was deployed with the 2/11th Battalion to defend the airfield at Retimo. The German airborne invasion of Crete began on 20 May but they were unable to take the airfield until ten days later. German victories elsewhere on Crete allowed them to concentrate their forces against Retimo.
