The hooded flap is fitted with the staple portion of a quick release fastener which can be fitted to either of the two links on the front of the pouch. The belt also has a pair of 1944 Pattern water bottles with cups, one of which has its original aluminium cap. This water bottle has stamped into it '1953 MMS' surmounted by the broad arrow and 'AA0342 CN'. The second water bottle has a rubber lid with '1952 MMS' surmounted by the broad arrow and 'AA0342 CN'. The bags for these water bottles have a pocket provided inside on the back wall for a filter bag and a web loop is fitted to take a tube of sterilising tablets. The bottle is retained in the carrier by flaps over its shoulders secured by string. Originally there would have been snap fasteners but they have perished.
