Description

First issue Pattern 1944 Basic Pouch in jungle green cotton. The pouch has a brass drain eyelet in the bottom and a hooded flap with a quick release toggle fastener at the top which has a two position closure. The back of the pouch has a pair of double hooks for attachment to the Pattern 1944 webbing belt, and a pair of vertical fabric loops by which it may be suspended from other belts. At the top is a tapered cloth tab with an alloy buckle for attachment to the webbing shoulder braces. The inside of the flap is stamped in black ink with the following: 'MATTINSON BROS 1846, Broad arrow icon, A.F 0267'.

History / Summary

This Pattern 1944 basic pouch was used by Major Col Adamson during his service in Vietnam. The 1944 Pattern equipment was given to Major Adamson by a friend, and had previously been used in Korea. Colin James Adamson joined the Australian Army in 1953. He spent seven years in New Guinea with the Pacific Island Regiment. He later served in Vietnam from 27 March 1968 to 22 October 1968 with 1 Battalion Royal Australian Regiment (1 RAR). He was the Commanding Officer of A Company 1 RAR during the Viet Cong attacks on Fire Support Base Coral in May 1968.
