Description

Studio portrait of VX80932 Lieutenant (Lt) William Riggall, 6 Division Headquarters, Australian Army Service Corps (AASC), of Kooyong, VIC. A solicitor in civilian life, Lt Riggall enlisted on the 30 July 1942 and was posted to the role of Aide-de-camp to VX9 Major General (Maj Gen) George Alan Vasey, a position he held for three years. Lt Riggall was killed, aged 35, along with Maj Gen Vasey on 5 March 1945 when the aircraft they were travelling in crashed in Cairns, Qld. Lt Riggall's father, Lieutenant Colonel Harold William Riggall DSO, was a Gallipoli veteran of the First World War. (See also P04140.001)
