Description

Extendable, tubular, brass, No. 25 periscope finished in Khaki paint. The adjustable viewing aperture is fitted at ninety degrees to one end of the brass periscope tube and has a brown bakelite eye rest. At the opposite end a bevilled prism, protected by a brass and white metal cover is fitted. Attached to the side of the tube is a sliding steel bar which is connected to the top prism and can be extended to further the height of the periscope. Number 25 periscopes were fitted to British armoured vehicles during the First World War.

History / Summary

This brass, Number 25 Periscope, was taken from a disabled British armoured car by German troops in September 1918. It was used for a short time by the Germans until it was later recaptured by Australians. It was taken as a souvenir by 16948, Lance Corporal Roger Macdonald Amos of 10th Field Company Engineers.
