History / Summary
Awarded to 2050 Sapper Joseph Buckley Watson who served with the 10th Reinforcements of 1 Field Company Engineers on Gallipoli, in Egypt and on the Western Front. Buckley was born in Liverpool, England in 1887 and emigrated to Australia with his family when he was a child. At the time of his enlistment, on 16 April 1915, he was working as a fitter and turner in Croydon, a suburb of Sydney. Buckley sailed from Sydney aboard HMAT A70 'Ballarat' on 6 September 1915. He returned to Australia after his service on 22 September 1919.
