Studio portrait of VX57043 Gunner (Gnr) Alan William Glover, in uniform, and his bride Violet Bertha Glover on their wedding day. Gnr Glover, of Avoca, Vic, enlisted on 2 June 1941. In March 1942 he was captured by the Japanese whilst serving with 4 Anti Tank Regiment. He was moved from Changi Gaol with A Force to Tavoy, Burma, in May 1942 to repair airfields. He and seven others attempted escape but were captured shortly afterwards and executed on 6 June 1942, on the evening of his first wedding anniversary. News of his death did not reach Violet until 5 December 1944. She worked as a conductress for the Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board from October 1941 until January 1942, after which she was employed as a foreman in the Shell Shop at Maribyrnong Munitions Factory for the remainder of the war.
