Description

A portrait of Lieutenant General Arthur Fitzgerald Janes. Janes enlisted as a medical officer with the 2/15th Field Ambulance in 1939 and was well liked and respected by the men he served with. He was an officer that put his men, their safety and their wellbeing before all else. After serving with the 2/15th Field Ambulance Janes also served with the 6 Division Cavalry Regiment and also the 4th Armoured Brigade. The artist who painted this portrait, John Frawley, also served in the Second World War with the Army Signal Corps and became a war artist attached to the army. He was commissioned by the Army to paint the portraits of important officers that served during the Second World War. In 1944 he was commissioned to paint this portrait of Lieutenant Colonel Arthur Fitzgerald Janes.
