Description

Jungle green long sleeved Aertex shirt produced by modifying the standard British Army issue safari-style bush jacket. The shirt is fastened by four green plastic buttons, with no provision for a fastening at the collar. The same style of green plastic button is also used on the pockets, shoulder straps and cuffs. Below the shoulder on the right hand sleeve is a machine embroidered 28 Commonwealth Brigade patch, featuring the Queen's crown and the word 'COMMONWEALTH' on a light and dark blue background. The left hand upper sleeve has an embroidered 'AUSTRALIAN MILITARY FORCES' Rising Sun badge in gold, red and black cotton on an olive green background. Each sleeve has a white tape chevron indicating the rank of lance bombardier. The two breast patch pockets are pleated and have button flap closures. A pair of waist pockets were originally present, but these have been unpicked, enabling the shirt to be tucked into trousers, a common practise during the Malayan Emergency and the later Confrontation. An external belt which would have originally been sewn to the back of the jacket has been unpicked and removed for the same reason. There are War Department stamps inside the waist, and the name and service number 'DINNEEN 14350' have been written in black ink inside the collar.
