Description

Rectangular yellow satin fabric table cover with a plain white cotton backing and a light blue tassel fringe. The face of the cover is embroidered, predominately in yellow with some blue, with a border of date palms and stylised Middle Eastern buildings with a small camel caravan. They frame a crude Rising Sun design over the words 'Australian Commonwealth / Military Forces', which sits over the NSW coat of arms with a scroll featuring the words ' 19 Souvenir of Palestine 41'.

History / Summary

John Charles Arney was born in Helensburgh, NSW on the 27 November 1918. He was a motor mechanic before enlisting on the 26 October 1939. He served with 2/3 Battalion before being transferred to Corps of Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers 16 Brigade. He was promoted to Corporal on the 24 January 1944 and discharged on the 7 March 1945.
